Construction – DONE!

I am so happy its done. It looks great and being able to shower is fantastic! I’ll post some final pictures and be done with this construction business. For now anyway.

Ahhh, and its the little touches that make me happy with this Reno. The tiles are all edged in a brushed steel type boarder, the fan is a light, the floor tile looks great with a boarder, the accesory stand was bought separately but matches my vanity perfectly.

And that curved shower curtain rod is to die for! it makes the space inside the actual tub/shower area feel like its doubled because it pulls the curtain away from you while you shower. Awesome-ness.

Sigh. Okay, knitting content next post I promise. I have made good progress on my diagonal lace socks and have been happily knitting.

Thanks for all your kind comments during my reno insanity. It was very difficult to have a family of four with no shower for almost two months, but worst when we had that almost two week stretch with no tub either! But life should resume to normal now… for now long is anyones guess but I’ll do like Monty Python today and look on the bright side of life.

Construction Day 12

Sigh. 12 actual days of construction has been 18 calendar days of ugh.

We are primed, tiled and ready for the toilet and vanity and lights I think!!! I’m so excited :)

Hopefully today while I’m at work, things get finished !!!

PS – I’m LOVING the Diagonal Lace Socks. So awesome and easy to memorize!

Construction – Day …

We are at Construction day I dont friggin know, Day 10 (had to go count on the calendar)

We had some additional setbacks last week with a faulty cartridge filter that lead to a leaking main water shut off and thus a partially flooded family room. *sigh* but it seems we are back on track and the construction guys stayed until 8:30 last night finishing up the tile in the shower area and prepping to move to the final phase of GTD.

Still looks like crap… trying to picture things properly grouted and finished helps.. a little…

I have been knitting. I started working again on an old forgotten sweater and made some progress there but missed having a sock on the go and cast on last night for a pair of Diagonal Lace Socks by Wendy D Johnson of Wendy Knits

I love the look of Yarn on the Swift…

Construction – Day 6

There wasnt much to show for Day 5. And we had to take a few days off for the Victoria day long weekend, so even though its been 9 physical days, we are only on Construction day 6.

But. We have a floor

This picture doesnt capture the color quite right, I’ll try in better light. Its actually a beautiful tile, textured and with hints of blue swirl in the color. I’m happy with it.

I cant wait to see the rest come together :) Sigh.

On the knitting front I very uneventfully finished two pairs of socks I had hanging about in my knitting baskets. My Rivergrass socks (YAY) and a pair of plain vanilla socks for DH. All done and off my WIP list. I’m making a concentrated effort to clean up some of my wips again because I have two big projects coming up that I want to work on exclusively. And for some reason I feel like I cant do that with so much unfinished business :) I may also cast on for another pair of socks though because they make much better morning commute knitting than a big or complicated piece.

No pictures of the socks to post but I’ll recap my open projects soon.

Construction – Day 4

I should just start by making it clear that although I wish I was construction savvy enough to completely gut my bathroom and re-do, alas I am most certainly not. We do have a contractor. I wish I was seeing faster results from said contractor but I’m happier with slower more meticulous work any day when compared with fast and cheaply done.

There isnt much to report today. The pipes have now been re-routed and connected and mercy me it looks like we didnt even have to break up my closet. My wonderful contractor found a spot in the wall where it fit between the two walls and so far all appears to be coming together. Hopefully today when I go home the new drywall will be up. I’d like to start cleaning the inch thick layer of dust that has now settled on MY WHOLE FREAKING HOUSE as a result of the demolition. But there really is no use until they are done making more dust.

Construction-Day 3

Day three see’s us with a solution to the pipe in the middle of the room. Horray! Of course its going to cost me but we are going to move it to the other side of the bathroom wall which is actually my closet. It will be drywalled in, and contained, but the loss of 8 inches running up the inside of my closet will bother me a lot less than in the middle or edge of the bathroom which is already tight for a main bath.

And we have a hole in the roof!! But a good one. This is for the new fan that will be in the bathroom. Believe it or not we didnt have a fan in the main bathroom!!! insanity!

Okay, after today, we should start to see some re-build (please please please)

Construction – Day 2

Not much difference but we now down to bones no floor tiles and no tub. Now hopefully we will see some change!

And where there used to be a tub…

Construction-Day 1

Well, since we moved we had some unexpected water in unexpected places so we were faced with a bathroom Reno sooner than expected.

I need to chronicle, for my own records, this expensive and slightly stressful process…

BEFORE

The before isn’t pretty. You cant really tell from the photos, but the sink/tub/floor/toilet are a dirty looking cream color and the walls are brown. It wasnt a gorgeous room, But after day one it looks like this…

It has to get worse before it gets better.
See that big black pipe. Yes well, apparently that ugly built in cabinet was concealing the master plumbing vent for the whole house. Horray! that means my reno will now 1) take longer 2) cost more

Happy day.

*sigh*

On a good note, we filled our pool on Sunday and it looks lovely…

While it was still filling I sat and watched,

And then when it was done, I took a picture from my bedroom window Monday evening…

A quilt for Max

Precious baby Max was born to good friends of ours recently. Actually, Max’s mummy went in to labour on the day of my move and had to leave !!! Max was born on Easter Weekend, a month ahead of his expected arrival.

I’ve started the Cow Bonnet and Soakers for Baby Max and thought they would be a perfect shower gift but unpacking, illness and general ‘holy crap I’ve got too muchy to do’-ness held me back from completing them in time. So on friday, faced with a baby shower the next day and no gift, what did I do? I decided to start a quilt. Cause, ya I’m crazy like that. Its just a freakin baby quilt I said to myself, you have to be able to sew a baby quilt in one day less than one day…

I went to Fabric land directly from work with a vaugue idea of what I wanted to do, no pattern and just a bank card to fund my insanity. I picked out some fabrics and drove home. By the time I sat at the sewing table it was 8:30. But by 10:30 I had this…

I sat and pinned the quilt and got the machine ready with the right foot and thread for the morning to do the actual quilting, and I cut all the fabric for the binding strips and sewed together a length.

Saturday morning I headed back down to the studo with my coffee and got right to it. I stitched in the ditch for stips of color fabric and decided to stitch a line half way along each white strip between the color strips.

Then I got the binding tacked down, sewed, and folded & finished. By 12:30 I had the quilt folded and wrapped and card written and ready. I didnt wash the quilt but I advised mum to wash it in whatever detergent they use anyhow so as not to irritate baby Max with something different.

I hope they love it. I think its great and I’m only sorry I couldnt keep it around longer to oogle over.
